Maybe the hardest thing about being a teacher that also happens to be from the LGBTQ community is selling “it will get better” to students in class or in the GSA. It’s a tough sell. I am a seriously optimistic person, but there are days upon days of bad news and it gets difficult to sell the idea to the kids without body language betraying the idea that clearly you don’t believe a word of it.
It’s been hard to teach since the last election. Its been hard to believe that we can ever be safe from these people that vote color and fictitious “family values.”
It has been a very long night and we are not even remotely close to relief. What is sad is that the only way things could be worse for me as a trans person is if I was a trans person of color!! What in the world does that say about my formerly great (and kind) country?
