I am 58 and staring into the face of 60 and in all that time I don’t recall anytime I wasn’t very vocal in expressing how wonderful my country was. Vietnam didn’t move me off my flag waving, nor did Watergate, or even the killing of my presidents. I have always been an obnoxious flag waver.
I am still proud of where I live and what we stood for once upon a time. But I have lost the desire to brag. I have lost the need to share where I am from and what leaders I am tied to. I am still proud of my flag, but I keep it in my pocket.
