There haven’t been a lot of presidents in my lifetime I would have crossed the street to talk to. Of course some of that was due to being old enough to understand Watergate, but even beyond that the office itself sets you up to be disappointed. Men given that much power are just bound to let you down. But for all their faults there have only been two that I would not stand up for if they entered the room. I didn’t respect Clinton because of the way he treated his family, and I was not a fan of Reagan’s economics, but in both cases I felt like they cared about the country.
I would not have stood for Nixon nor would I for Trump because in both cases they did (do) not seem to care about Americans. They are characters in history that are devoid of any purpose other than the acquisition of power and exercise of ego. The office simply has to mean more than that.
