It is a good day to remember that for as wonderful as this country is we have been remarkably cruel at times.  Actually given the direction we are headed now it is a good time to remember that times that were “the good old days for some of us” were awful for far too many people,

This country only works if you are able to grasp both the successes and failures of us as a people.  If one of the two major parties see the 1950s as being ideal, and are fine with the segregation, lynchings, gays in hiding, and Latinos serving as virtual slave labor picking fruit then we have a problem.

Today the white men in power will celebrate the white men that declared independence from England.  The rest of us will just be praying to not end up in a cage or a detention camp.

It is a tad ironic that the country started with only one color and one gender in power, and now centuries later it returns as the template for governing in the Republican Party.
