It’s amusing I can’t remember the state capitals or the order of the presidents or my social security number but I can’t open a frig without thinking “why am I cooling the whole house!” Being old and looking back it is funny what our parents worried about.
They wanted us to know what we needed to get from the refrigerator before we opened it, but they didn’t get concerned about our apple wars (what it sounds like…..apples thrown very hard at very close distances). They didn’t want us sitting too close to the tv for fear of blindness, but let us go off on bikes at break neck speeds without helmets or any understanding of our own mortality (or respect for pavement). They would not tolerate rudeness from children, and this included speaking to strangers whom they had no concerns about us talking to.
I think my parents were a hoot.
