Maybe this is the hardest part of transition to explain to people.
It isn’t just that early on I hated being me. Worse than that was that I didn’t know who I could be, or what a happy me would look like.
15 years is a long-time but every bump in the road was worth it. There is simply no price you can put on liking who you are. That old expression about the need to “be comfortable in your own skin” is incredible true. Odds are it wasn’t written by a Trans person…..but it sure could have been. I don’t take happiness for granted. I am very aware of what life was like without it.
